Jacqueline and Håvard Visit Moorhead

I love weddings and how somehow, magically, it brings everybody together. Our friend Jacqueline and her boyfriend Håvard stopped in for a visit this week on their way from Norway to St. Paul for Tony and Erin's Wedding tomorrow. It was great to catch up and to meet Håvard for the very first time.

Both Jacqueline and Håvard are photographers, which gave us plenty of time to talk shop as my poor husband sat in the corner checking baseball scores on the internet.

Not only was it Håvard's first time meeting Jacqueline's North American friends, it was also his first time on our fine continent. To my surprise, their are no twizzlers in Norway.

Tall Buildings, Big Eyes

I love architecture. Whether it's a crappy little shack in a town of 200, or huge, tall buildings in a huge, big city. I've seen a lot of tall building in my life, but, I must say, NYC takes the cake. I felt like a complete tourist (which, I guess, I was) looking up at these ginormous buildings. I don't feel I was as awe-struck as the 40 year old Midwest moms surrounding me, but, it was pretty darn cool to see the Empire State Building.

I have a lot of pictures from my recent trip to NYC, so, I'm trying to separate them in to a few sections. First up, my favorite pictures of architecture.

Well, we're not home yet.

We flew into Minneapolis yesterday afternoon, only to to discover our poor Honda wouldn't start. So, our plans to drive home yesterday we're a bit delayed. Our car is currently getting fixed, something to do with an ignition coil, and we're sitting at our friend's Al & Jen's home in St. Paul. As much as it is disappointing that our car is broke, it has been nice to spend the extra time here. Last night, I grabbed a whole bunch of photos of our faux niece, Anna.

Last night in NYC...

It's our last night in the city... coming home tomorrow afternoon (and hoping the kittens haven't destroyed our poor house.) The conference was absolutely great. I'll probably spend some writing an entire blog about that when we get home.

Here are just a few more picture from our stay. I've been experimenting a bit with technique, which has yielded, well, interesting results. Too bad most of them just don't work.

Live from New York...

Sorry about the title of this blog post. I couldn't resist.

Kris and I arrived in Brooklyn yesterday afternoon. I'm here for a the VII Photo Agency Seminar, which started today (more about that below), and my dear husband is tagging along because, well, who wouldn't want to tag along on a trip to NYC?

Yesterday, after getting lost trying to find a pizza place, we stumbled across the Brooklyn Bridge...

Photobucket

The bridge is exactly how I thought it would be... long, big and beautiful. We saw the remnants of a fender bender on the bridge plus a great view of Manhattan.

After walking around the financial district (and having a beer) we stumbled upon Battery Park and caught some men fishing...

Photobucket

This man had to throw the fish back because it was too small... I think that would be big in Minnesota...

The best deal in NYC is definitely the Staten Island Ferry (it's free, and you go right by the Statue of Liberty AND you get to see a great view of the skyline)...

On the way back, we took another stroll through Battery Park...

So, yes... we came back pretty sore. I guess we're not used to walking. I'm particularly sore today, and it's pretty painful to walk. Luckily (or not so luckily) it's raining today, so, it allows me to give my leg a break.

Today was the first day of the seminar and I'm already inspired to do something more as a photographer. The members of the agency are so incredibly focused and talented. It reminds me why I fell in love with journalism. There is something so incredibly beautiful with the raw truth.
